About Me

My name is Kai Bartley, I use he/him pronouns and I am a Junior at Susquehanna University studying Broadcasting with a Theatre minor. I also take part in 88.9 WQSU-FM, University Chorale, Shakespeare Club and Students for Sensible Drug Policy, and work in our LGBTQ+ Resource Center and Residence Life office.

My interests cover a large range of subjects, including singing, crafting, prop-making, crocheting, gaming, content creating, and more. I chose to study Broadcasting as it encompasses many of my favorite interests, most notably the impact and art of audio production. As someone with hearing damage combined with a love for music and sound, I have a unique approach to creating audio work and desire to innovate and improve the field. I have experienced and researched many aspects of broadcasting, such as collecting, writing and presenting weekly news and weather reports; producing promos and liners for radio broadcasts; scripting and editing educational podcasts; and presenting as an On-Air Personality.

I am the most curious about the ability to manipulate sound into something more, namely through the art of Foley. My favorite fun fact to share with others is that in the movie “A Quiet Place” (2018), the clicking, echo-location sounds from the monsters was achieved by tasing grapes! I want to be the one to look at objects and sounds not as what they are, but what they could be, and find the perfect way to produce an extremely specific sound request from a very particular director.
