Portfolio

As I build up my Communications portfolio, I can present the other focus of my studies; Theatrical design. While I am unable to declare a focus as a Theatre minor, I work primarily behind the scenes to produce and carry out designs for costuming and set. I took a Stage Makeup course in the Spring semester of 2022, and these are three works produced during that time, respectively: Freehand alien, Chinchilla and Porcelain Plate Drag. Each were accomplished using Ben Nye color pigment and liners, Mehron water paint and assorted eyeshadows.

That same Spring semester, I took a class in Scenic Design, where I was tasked with creating two “white models,” or scale dioramas of our design of a stage-show. This first model is for the show “Blithe Spirit,” which was the class assignment as a practice run to learn the ropes and techniques. This set is static (no movement of major set pieces), with an intended “faux” door on the left for the ghost character to pass through. The overall design is meant to mimic a folding dollhouse, showing into the private lives of the characters. Materials include a #2 pencil, a ruler, construction paper and foam board.

Our final project was a show of our choosing, and I completed a design for “Wild Party.” Unlike the first models completed, this model was to be in color to show intended textures, patterns and colors. This was a dynamic set, with some moving parts including a bathroom that largely remains offstage, and hidden bars as the show takes place during prohibition. Materials include craft and construction paper, markers, paint, graphite, various wood craft pieces, scrap fabric, and foam board.
